Damages to the facades

While comparatively minor damage is noticeable from the ground, the upper facade areas have more pronounced damage zones: They are worrying in some areas of masonry.

Especially at the transept (center of gravity on the north side) in addition to the outer perimeters, joints have been loosened over a large area and along crack zones – which can cause major stone damage to the tuff masonry there in the short term.

On pillars, capitals, tower cornices and other ornaments, defective natural stones also emerge, which urgently need to be examined (and possibly secured) more closely in order to prevent stones/stone parts from falling down.

Here, too, facade inspections with a lifting platform are necessary. At the same time, the side roofs are also inspected, from which individual slates come off time and again.
