The cathedral is the cradle of the city of Bonn. It is a spiritual, cultural, historical and quotidian centre. It’s a piece of the identity of Bonn. People associate many personal memories and thoughts with the Basilica. They love the almost 1000 year old building and cannot imagine their city without the cathedral. The heart of these citizen is beating for the cathedral. This is the basis of the initiative’s motto: “My heart beats for Bonn Minster”. This guiding principle is a clear commitment to all that the cathedral means for Bonn and its inhabitants.
The motto is also visualized: The logo of the initiative shows the heartbeat of the Bonn minster with the silhouette of the church building. The heartbeat proves that the cathedral is alive – but as a patient who urgently needs our help. If enough hearts are beating for Bonn Cathedral, it can be kept alive.
The scope of the restoration measures of the Bonn minster has not yet been determined. However, it is clear that these will take several years. The initiative must therefore continue to attract people’s attention over this long period of time. This is achieved with continuous elements that try to raise donations over the entire campaign period. And with lighthouse actions that repeatedly reactivate the interest of the population – and thus also the commitment and willingness to donate.
